February 17, Nyon, Switzerland – Innovation takes many forms at Hublot. The continuous drive to push boundaries and break limits to create stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces is a driving force for the pioneering brand, sustaining its intense creative energy. Having established itself as a leader in crafting a wide range of materials, from colored sapphires and vibrant ceramics to developing the world’s first scratch-resistant 18-carat gold alloy, Hublot now reveals a true innovation that has been in development for several years: multicolored ceramic, named “Magic Ceramic.”
Hublot has been at the forefront of colored ceramic development
For over a decade, Hublot has been at the forefront of colored ceramic development and remains the only watchmaker capable of producing vibrant-colored ceramics in its workshops. Thanks to the expertise of the “Research & Development” and “Materials & Metals” teams, who act as the “alchemists of time” by creating what was once thought impossible, Hublot has achieved what was long considered the ultimate goal in the ceramic world. This achievement is nothing short of revolutionary, marking the beginning of a new world of creative possibilities, artistic expression, and freedom.
Creating multicolored ceramics is not simply about layering colored materials; it requires creative thinking and a deep understanding of ceramics and the color production process. While others have attempted to produce multicolored ceramics, none have come close to what Hublot has achieved. Every colorant used must undergo different temperatures during both the firing and molding stages of ceramic creation. The challenge lies in finding the perfect balance to achieve a homogeneous result, free from imperfections, every time.
Hublot’s new Magic Ceramic, always at the forefront of innovation, is the result of a process that has been patented and is used for the first time in the limited-edition Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic, with only 20 pieces available, offering a glimpse of the limitless possibilities this innovation brings.

Commenting on this latest innovation from Hublot, Matthias Pictet, the Director of Research and Development, said: “I am extremely proud to see our team create a material that perfectly embodies the spirit of Hublot: a precise blend of science, alchemy, and playful audacity. After more than four years of research, we mastered the art of combining patented vibrant colors – a true technical achievement. Thanks to the creativity of our young engineers who are leading the charge, and their talent, Hublot’s scientific approach and creative spirit will continue to surprise.”
The new colored ceramic stands out with a truly unique, intriguing, captivating, and simply astonishing appearance. In the Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic, the dark grey ceramic bezel is punctuated with deep blue circles, scattered in a way that appears random and natural. Like a contemporary abstract art piece or in the style of pop art, the seamless integration of these circles into the surrounding ceramic showcases the creativity behind the patented process.
flyback function
At the heart of the Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic is the automatic Unico chronograph movement with a flyback function, designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in Hublot’s workshops. This mechanism is coated in a grey tone that matches the dominant color of the multicolored ceramic. Completing the look of this one-of-a-kind piece, blending art with watchmaking, is a fully black rubber strap. This fusion of Hublot’s first automatic chronograph movement and its latest ceramic innovation represents the company’s extensive expertise.
The Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic will be released in a limited edition of 20 pieces, making history as the world’s first of its kind, and marking the beginning of a new creative journey for Hublot to explore to its fullest. The future is bright… and multicolored.
