AGMC is preparing to give Lotus a significantly stronger presence in the UAE following its appointment as the brand’s official distributor, with the company outlining an ambitious strategy focused on customer engagement, after-sales support, brand visibility and long-term sales growth.
Speaking to GearsMe following the announcement of the partnership, AGMC explained that rebuilding Lotus in the UAE will require much more than simply opening a showroom and selling cars. Instead, the company is approaching the brand with a comprehensive strategy that brings together sales, service, marketing, customer experience and community engagement.
According to AGMC, successfully launching and developing a brand requires a detailed execution plan covering every aspect of the ownership journey.
“There is not one answer to this question,” the company explained when asked how it intends to reposition Lotus in the UAE. “If you launch a brand, you need to have an execution plan which is very detailed. There is a product element, there is an after-sales service element, there is a brand element and there is a community element. Everything needs to come together.”
Building a Lotus Community in the UAE
One of AGMC’s main priorities will be connecting directly with existing Lotus owners and enthusiasts.
Lotus has traditionally attracted a highly passionate audience, particularly drivers who appreciate lightweight engineering, handling and performance. AGMC believes this enthusiastic community will play an important role in the brand’s next chapter in the UAE.
The distributor plans to organise and participate in activities that reflect the lifestyle and interests of Lotus customers, including driving experiences, motorsport-related events, cultural activities and other lifestyle initiatives.
AGMC said its experience representing BMW in the UAE has demonstrated the importance of remaining visible wherever customers and enthusiasts gather.
“We are there because we did a lot of activities. Everywhere you find like-minded people, we are present, and we will use this approach with Lotus as well,” the company told GearsMe.
The objective will be to expose Lotus to a wider audience while simultaneously strengthening relationships with the brand’s existing enthusiast community.
AGMC Expects Significant Lotus Sales Growth
AGMC also expressed strong confidence that Lotus sales will increase substantially under its management.
Rather than using the brand’s previous UAE sales performance as a benchmark, AGMC says it is approaching Lotus based on what it believes the brand can achieve in the market going forward.
Asked whether it expects sales growth over the coming years, the response was clear: “One hundred percent.”
AGMC explained that it had not based its decision to take on Lotus on historical sales volumes, arguing that previous figures do not necessarily represent the true potential of the brand.
“We have never looked into the previous numbers. If you were to do any trajectory based on the previous numbers, you would probably come to the conclusion that you would not be interested in representing the brand.”
Instead, AGMC believes there is a substantial audience in the UAE for performance-focused and dynamic sports cars, particularly when supported by the right product portfolio, customer experience and marketing strategy.
“We have a very clear understanding of the market. We think the market is there, there are lots of people interested in dynamic sports cars, and we believe we can reach out to them. With the right products coming, this will be an entirely different story.”
Lotus Remains a British Brand
The interview also addressed the perception surrounding Lotus following its ownership by Chinese automotive group Geely Holding.
AGMC strongly rejected the idea that Lotus should be positioned as a Chinese automotive brand.
“It is not a Chinese brand. It is a British brand which was born in Britain, which has been developed in Britain and which is manufactured in Britain.”
AGMC argued that backing from a large international automotive group is increasingly important in today’s industry because of the enormous investment required to develop competitive modern vehicles.
Developing electric powertrains, advanced software, safety systems, connected technology and next-generation vehicle architectures requires billions of dollars in investment, making large-scale financial and technological backing increasingly important for performance brands such as Lotus.
Geely Holding’s investment, according to AGMC, provides Lotus with the resources required to develop future products while allowing the company to maintain its own identity.
“There is not a single company in the world today with a competitive product that is not backed by a large automotive group. You are talking about billions of investment.”
Lotus Operates Independently Within Geely Holding
AGMC also emphasized that Lotus operates independently within the wider Geely Holding structure.
While there may be investment, technology sharing and manufacturing cooperation within the group, AGMC said Lotus has its own management, product strategy and brand positioning.
“It is part of the Geely Group, but it is a part of the business that is steered entirely independently.”
AGMC added that its experience with Lotus operations internationally demonstrated a clear separation between Lotus and other brands within the Geely portfolio.
“The execution of the Lotus team is on an entirely different level. It is an independent part of the business. Apart from funding, some technology transfer and certain manufacturing capabilities, there is really very little overlap.”
For customers, this means AGMC intends to continue presenting Lotus according to its British performance heritage rather than positioning it alongside mainstream Chinese automotive brands.
New Lotus Showroom Planned for Sheikh Zayed Road
AGMC confirmed that Lotus will have a showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road, placing the brand in one of Dubai’s most important automotive retail locations.
The Lotus facility will have its own dedicated presence rather than simply being incorporated into one of AGMC’s existing brand showrooms.
A service facility will also support Lotus customers in the UAE, with after-sales operations forming a central part of AGMC’s strategy.
The company views after-sales support as particularly important for rebuilding confidence among existing owners and convincing new customers to purchase vehicles through the official distributor.
AGMC says communication will be sent to existing Lotus customers informing them of the new distributorship and available service support.
“Our service centre is up and running, so we will be able to service the vehicles, and then step by step we will continue opening the necessary customer touchpoints.”
Existing Lotus Owners Will Be a Priority
Connecting with existing owners will form an important part of the transition.
AGMC believes many current Lotus customers in the UAE will welcome the arrival of a larger and more established distributor, particularly because of the importance of parts availability, maintenance, warranty support and technical expertise in the premium and performance-car segment.
The company plans to communicate directly with owners while gradually introducing additional facilities and customer experiences.
This strategy could prove particularly important for Lotus because many owners are highly engaged with their vehicles and often remain connected with enthusiast communities long after purchasing their cars.
AGMC Is Not Concerned About the Grey Market
The UAE has one of the region’s largest markets for imported luxury and performance cars, and grey-market vehicles can frequently compete with official distributor stock, particularly when they are offered at lower prices.
However, AGMC says it does not consider grey-market Lotus vehicles to be a major threat.
The company believes customers purchasing expensive performance vehicles are increasingly concerned about what happens after the purchase, including maintenance, technical support, warranty coverage, parts availability and resale value.
“The grey market is always there. There are always attractive vehicles available through the grey market.”
AGMC says the solution is not simply competing on price, but demonstrating why purchasing from the authorised distributor provides additional long-term value.
“You need to be very competitive and you need to convince people that it makes sense to buy the car from the distributor.”
For customers investing substantial amounts of money in a high-performance or luxury vehicle, AGMC believes the ownership experience after the sale becomes increasingly important.
“When people are spending significant amounts of money on a vehicle, the more important part becomes how they are taken care of after the purchase. That is why many customers will choose a serious authorised distributor rather than the grey market.”
A New Chapter for Lotus in the UAE
Lotus is entering an important period globally as it expands beyond its traditional lightweight sports-car roots and develops a broader range of performance vehicles, including electric models such as the Eletre hyper-SUV and Emeya hyper-GT alongside the Emira sports car.
For AGMC, the opportunity is therefore larger than simply taking over an existing automotive franchise.
The company believes Lotus can occupy a distinctive position within the UAE premium performance market, combining its long-standing British motorsport heritage with the technology and investment now available through Geely Holding.
AGMC’s strategy will focus on increasing visibility, building relationships with enthusiasts, improving sales and after-sales touchpoints and creating a stronger long-term ownership experience.
If executed successfully, the partnership could mark a major reset for Lotus in the UAE and give the British performance brand the local presence AGMC believes it deserves.
