The Initial Shock
In the 1980s, Hublot revolutionized the luxury watch industry by blending two seemingly incompatible materials: gold and rubber. The brand’s distinctive porthole design, inspired by nautical elements, aimed to create a timepiece that was both sporty and luxurious. This vision was driven by the brand’s founder, Carlo Crocco, who wanted a watch that was reliable enough for sailing yet stylish enough to wear with a suit. In 2005, this innovative spirit resurfaced with the Big Bang, which introduced bold design and oversized yet comfortable proportions, marking a new era for Hublot.
Hublot BIG BANG
The Big Bang, a cosmic event that birthed matter and time, symbolized a new era for both Hublot and the entire watchmaking industry. With its “Art of Fusion” philosophy, Hublot sought to break the traditional rules of watchmaking in favor of creative freedom. The first Big Bang, launched in 2005, featured a unique combination of 18K pink gold, ceramic, rubber, and carbon fiber in a multi-layered design, which was unprecedented at the time. The watch received numerous accolades, including the prestigious 2005 GPHG “Design Watch” award, signaling the beginning of a limitless future for the Big Bang.
A Revolutionary Mindset
Bold, unexpected, and groundbreaking—these values have shaped Hublot since its inception. Following the Big Bang’s success, Hublot continued to push the boundaries of design, introducing new materials like Magic Gold and exploring the intersection of traditional watchmaking with contemporary art and culture. The Big Bang stands as a glimpse into the future of horology, constantly evolving and redefining the rules of the craft.

20 Years of the Unexpected
Since its debut in 2005, the Big Bang has consistently defied expectations, evolving and transforming over the years. By constantly pushing creative limits and exploring innovative material combinations, as well as developing unique movements and complications, the Big Bang remains at the forefront of Hublot’s most daring and imaginative designs.
On this milestone, CEO Julien Tornare stated, “Celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the most iconic watches in contemporary horology fills us with pride and humility. The Big Bang is undoubtedly one of the most influential watches of the 21st century. It has redefined what a watch can be, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity, as well as between science and art. This year marks a time of celebration, reflection, and anticipation, and we look forward to sharing special moments and surprises with our global community throughout 2025.”
