Dubai, UAE, August 20, 2025: Geespace, Geely Group’s space and aviation arm, announced the successful launch of 11 new satellites into low Earth orbit, forming the fourth orbital layer of Geely’s future mobility constellation known as GEESATCOM. With this launch on August 9, the total number of operational satellites reached 41.

These satellites are part of a growing network that is transforming the automotive industry by providing ultra-precise positioning, reliable data links, and robust communications tailored specifically for the automotive sector. GEESATCOM reinforces Geely’s vision of creating an integrated mobility ecosystem connecting Earth and space, enhancing autonomous driving and connected vehicle experiences. By the end of 2025, upon completing its first phase, GEESATCOM aims to serve over 200 million users worldwide with a network of 72 satellites, ensuring real-time global coverage. This includes infrastructure to support autonomous driving, urban air mobility, and comprehensive communication technology between vehicles and their surroundings, encompassing communication with other vehicles and infrastructure systems, as well as real-time data exchange essential for advanced driver assistance systems and full autonomous driving technologies.

A Satellite Network Designed to Boost Vehicle Intelligence

In today’s advanced vehicles—especially those with autonomous driving and driver assistance systems—maintaining connectivity and precise positioning is crucial. Geely’s GEESATCOM satellite constellation forms the backbone of this capability, offering centimeter-level positioning accuracy, real-time fleet tracking, and seamless communication even in areas with poor conventional network coverage.

The latest launch of 11 satellites on August 9 follows three successful missions in 2022 and 2024, laying the foundation for Geely’s dedicated space-based infrastructure. In June 2022, nine GeeSAT-1 satellites were launched, marking the debut of China’s first mass-produced, high-durability satellites designed for low Earth orbit, enabling high-precision navigation and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.

In February 2024, another batch of 11 satellites brought enhanced remote sensing and navigation features to models like the Zeekr 001 FR, Zeekr 007, and Geely Galaxy E8. Then in September 2024, a third launch added 10 more satellites, expanding the network to 30 and providing around-the-clock coverage to 90% of the globe—officially enabling global satellite connectivity for vehicles.

For Geely users, this is more than just a technical achievement—it means a truly enhanced driving experience, with accurate navigation in remote areas, faster and more reliable OTA updates, uninterrupted media streaming, and emergency connectivity where cellular networks fall short.

In simple terms:

  • Vehicles can navigate precisely even in off-grid areas thanks to centimeter-level GPS.

  • Communication systems in vehicles now operate reliably via satellite, not just Wi-Fi or mobile networks.

  • Features like live maps, remote diagnostics, and driver-assistance systems have become more dependable.

Why GEESATCOM Matters

GEESATCOM aims to deliver a seamless and constantly connected experience for drivers and passengers. Beyond enabling precise autonomous navigation in challenging environments, the network enhances fleet management through real-time data exchange—improving efficiency across logistics and ride services. It also plays a critical role in emergency response, providing reliable communications in disaster-stricken or remote areas.

This initiative reflects Geely’s strong commitment to innovation. In the first half of 2024, the company increased its R&D investment by 18%, reaching 7 billion RMB, to support its “Smart Geely 2025” strategy and transition to intelligent electric mobility.

“As the official mobility partner of the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, Geely is also showcasing the real-world impact of its space technology—using satellite-based positioning and communication to manage event fleets smoothly and set new standards for transportation at global events”.
