Although Bentley has long been aware of its intentions to discontinue the W-12, we were unaware of the implications for the Flying Spur until recently. A facelifted version of the ostentatious sedan featuring the new plug-in hybrid V-8 from the updated Continental GT has been announced by the carmaker.
The 2025 Continental GT Speed, which debuted the plug-in hybrid drivetrain earlier in 2024, will soon be available throughout the company’s lineup. By the end of the year, the new Flying Spur is expected to make its premiere, and Bentley has confirmed that the system will power the vehicle.
Bentley’s “Ultra Performance Hybrid”
The engine, which Bentley refers to as the “Ultra Performance Hybrid,” is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with a maximum output of 584 horsepower. It is paired with an electric motor that produces 187 horsepower, which is positioned in between the engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque are the combined output of the two.
Based on the fairly optimistic European WLTP test cycle, the electric motor gets its power from a 25.9-kWh battery that is promised to offer up to 51 miles of EV-only driving range. Using the EPA’s logic, that’s probably closer to 40 miles. The Flying Spur may be able to surpass the Conti’s top speed of 87 mph when powered solely by electricity thanks to its electric motor.
New Body?
The general layout of the leaked preview photo effectively obscures the next Flying Spur. We notice a redesigned lower bumper with smaller vents and upgraded LEDs that resemble jewels. All things considered, it looks more like we’re looking at a heavily modified vehicle than a completely new one. For the Continental GT, the manufacturer claimed that 68% of the coupe’s parts are new, using the same methodology.
Aside from the engine, not much more is known about the redesigned Flying Spur. Only one teaser photograph of the new automobile, showing off a significantly altered front end, was released by the manufacturer. We’ll have to wait until it releases further details “in due course,” according to their announcement.
Bentley ‘s Announcement
The release date of the new 2025 Bentley Flying Spur has not yet been disclosed by the renowned British brand. They promised to provide further information when it becomes available. We anticipate Bentley revealing the vehicle at Monterey Car Week in the middle of August.
